SUMMARY:Our Stories in Clay: Sculpture & Ceramics
DESCRIPTION:Ages 8-13.\nStudents will explore Anacostia’s rich history, culture, and creative legacy through sculpture. Inspired by the people, places, objects, and everyday experiences that shape our community, students will transform memories and ideas into clay artworks and sculpture. Through basic hand building techniques, students will create sculptures that celebrate neighborhood, identity, and belonging. The completed works will contribute to a collective celebration of Anacostia’s creative inheritance.\nAnacostia Creates Connection: Students will use clay to create sculptures inspired by something that connects them to Anacostia, such as a person, place, memory, tradition, or neighborhood experience. Their individual sculptures will come together as a collective installation celebrating the stories, connections, and shared identity of the community.\nMeet Your Teaching Artist:\nBrittany Moná ( MoH-Nay) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Maryland. Specializing in Black abstract and figurative portraiture. Her work blends figurative portraiture, and assemblage techniques .Through her practice, Brittany explores themes of liberation, joy, memory, and transformation.\n
