Octavia Hammond

Octavia Hammond was born and raised in Washington, D.C. She is a self-made educator, an approach that sparked her interest in education. A substitute teaching job would develop her skills as a teacher and to the completion of the praxis test, making Ms. Hammond a full time teacher. She provided guidance and support to many children and parents for more than 6 years in the DCPS school system.

Ms. Hammond is a committed mother of four, avid reader and life lover. She decided to homeschool her children so that she would have time to become a champion of holistic living and wellness. Sharing resources and connecting families has been her greatest accomplishment, creating many relationships with local businesses. Ms. Hammond has written testimony to support the fight for food and health justice. Ms. Hammond’s outreach also extends to programming for youth by way of parent involvement.
