Nehemiah Dixon III
Deputy Director
Nehemiah Dixon III is a contemporary artist, cultural strategist, and community advocate with over two decades of experience in arts leadership, public programming, and community engagement. As Deputy Director of Project Create, he will support organizational leadership, strategic visioning, and program development to expand opportunities for creative youth development through accessible, multidisciplinary arts education in Washington, D.C.
Before joining Project Create, Nehemiah served as Senior Director for Community Engagement and Programming at The Phillips Collection, where he led the museum’s efforts to connect with diverse communities through innovative and inclusive programming. He oversaw Phillips@THEARC — an award-winning satellite space in Southeast Washington, D.C. — curating exhibitions, developing family and youth programs, and building strategic partnerships with local artists and organizations. Under his leadership, the museum expanded its reach to historically underserved communities and deepened its commitment to equity and access in the arts.
He is also the founder of Nonstop Art LLC, a creative agency that integrates public art, community design, and cultural development. His initiatives include public installations, youth entrepreneurship programs, and the creation of makerspaces in affordable housing communities.
Nehemiah’s work has been featured in MSNBC, The Washington Post, and Hyperallergic. His collaborations include DC Public Library, The Nicholson Project, the Washington Sculptors Group, and the Building Bridges Curatorial Committee for the 11th Street Bridge Project. Throughout his career, he has utilized art for healing, empowerment, and long-term social transformation.
